By the time this report is received the busiest period of the year should be over.
There was some conjecture in some quarters that the weather for the April competition would be other than reasonable, however the day proved otherwise and the weather bureau was correct in it’s forecast. Numbers were down for the month but this is to
be expected with a number of regulars heading north for an extended Easter break.
Just as the number of participants were down, so were the number and quality of fish with most people weighing in three and four species. The exceptions were Joe Gauci with his 6 and Francis McKeown with 5. There was only one Dhufish (Ron Langdon) and one Balchin (ME) caught and as you can see from the results they were not huge. Due to an absence of many veterans it was a day for Ron and me to gain some valuable points and conversely a day that Terry Bell will gladly drop following a great run for the year. Ultimately  the day belonged to Joe Gauci winning both the Mens and the Inter-boat.

As most people are aware the State boat Championships were held at Mandurah in March.  To say the conditions were in any way pleasant would be a gross understatement, however it was deemed to be fishable and therefore was ON.The club fielded total of 34 competitors  with the ladies performing the best winning their teams event and Dawn Cass taking out second in the individual whilst the mens No 1 team came second. Our Juniors team performed credibly to finish in third position. When you consider the numbers presented by MAAC it is not surprising they took out almost all places on offer. Well done to them.
On the lighter side, we did have a guest weather man who awoke to the day and being a resident of his car for the night was heard to have said ”Well the comps off, we won’t go out in that fog!” As we have all said at some time, the weather bureau should open the blinds and have look outside. In this case our intrepid Maurice of the Met opened his car door and realised that a white wall in front of a fogged up windscreen doesn’t represent a fog. Perhaps the previous night may have had a lot to do with it.

At this point I would like to thank Ranger Camping for their ongoing sponsorship and in particular Dave Green for his sponsorship of our team shirts. Unfortunately he couldn’t attend the State Boats due to his wife’s illness and we wish her well.
Forthcoming Events.
Juniors Day.  It has been proposed to have a juniors day on the 17 July. More details will be published on the notice board and skippers will be needed to host those juniors not aligned to a boat.
Patrons Cup. This event will be moved forward this year to avoid the closed season on demersal fish and is being considered for the 18 September.

I think that is enough waffle from me this month so I’ll close with a reminder that the Angling Section meeting is on the First Wed of the month and the Section meals night is on the fourth Friday. Conviviality is on any day that the club is open.
