Rottnest proposed dive site moorings

The Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) is currently evaluating the establishment of
designated dive sites within the Rottnest Island Reserve.  They are seeking inputs
(on the attached form).

A preliminary survey conducted by RIA Rangers over the 2008/09 summer identified
a number of dive sights attracting interest by scuba divers both privately and
commercially. A total of ten dive sights were identified. Of these ten sites, two were
identified as being the most popular; they are Crystal Palace to the south and Roe
Reef to the north.
At this stage it is proposed in consultation with commercial and private marine users
of the Reserve to establish three mooring buoys in a triangular configuration on each
site. The moorings would be designated 1 x commercial and 2 x recreational. Each
dive sight would have an exclusion “no drop anchoring” zone.
